Mammals and birds have high-energy requirements and therefore have a four-chambered hearts. This heart allows for “double circulation,” preventing deoxygenated and oxygenated blood from mixing. It has two atria, which pumps blood into, and two ventricles, which pumps blood out of the heart, thus providing the body with oxygenated blood. Four-Chambered Hearts
